Constant 1.5X Squeeze with NO Anamorphic Mumps
To avoid squeeze ratio varies across different focus distances (Anamorphic Mumps), Laowa developed a one-of-a-kind patented anamorphic design, to guarantee mumps-free characteristics with excellent optical performance. The design also keeps the lens extremely compact. Cinematographers can now focus on the shooting without worry of hideous mumps-correction in post-production.
Super 35+ Coverage
The Nanomorph series is designed for use with Super35(APS-C) and Micro Four Thirds cameras. Its Super35 design ensures optimal performance across these formats. The 65mm and 80mm can cover 4k resolution 16:9 UHD on cameras such as the Sony FX3, A7S3, and FX6, with only slight vignetting due to their larger image circle.
Anamorphic Widescreen
Anamorphic lenses offer a cinematic widescreen perspective. The Nanomorph chose the 1.5X squeeze ratio to achieve the perfect balance between the lens size, the desired anamorphic look, and the use of the sensor image. De-squeezing the footage shot with this lens produces a 2.66:1 ratio on a 16:9 sensor. Compared to other ratios, the Nanomorph provides a much more pronounced anamorphic look to 1.33X. And waste less image when compared to higher compression ratios.
Short Closest Focusing Distance of 70cm
Due to optical design constraints, anamorphic lenses typically exhibit a longer closest focusing distance. However, the Nanomorph lens distinguishes itself by boasting one of the shortest close-focusing distances on the market, signifying a higher degree of flexibility in framing for filmmakers. In particular, the 65mm and 80mm focal lengths have a 2.3 ft(70cm) close focusing distance, which enables filmmakers to capture close-up shots with a shallower depth of field, thereby accentuating the organic and oval bokeh effect.
Cinematic Oval Bokeh
The oval bokeh effect produced by anamorphic lenses is a highly sought-after feature in the world of cinema. The Nanomorph lens is particularly noteworthy for its organic and smooth oval bokeh effect, which is further enhanced by its high squeeze ratio of 1.5X than the 1.33X. The 65mm and 80mm versions of the Nanomorph lens can produce an even more flattering bokeh effect, with a focus roll-off that creates a cinematic look that filmmakers have long desired.
